Goals FOR 2007
  • Implement background checks in accordance with the resolution adopted by presbytery in its November 2006 meeting.
  • Write sample child protection police or policies for churches of various sizes. It may be that a single document can be crafted with interlineations covering churches of different sizes.
  • Develop ways and means to encourage churches to adopt a child protection policy and implement it.
  • Develop a policy covering compensation and benefits for Certified Christian Educators and recommend its adoption by presbytery. Print it in the Compensation Manual.
  • Change the Compensation Manual to add language to clarifying the use of “elapsed time” to calculate time off, such as vacation; and to indicate that reimbursement for continuing education will be the same for all pastor serving 50% to 100% time as resolved in the 5 December COM meeting.
  • Identify churches that are not in compliance with the presbytery policy on compensation and benefits, educate each on the provisions of the policy and reasons for each provision, and encourage those churches to bring the compensation and benefits of their pastors to a level within the policy.
  • Participate with CPM and the Stated Clerk in accomplishing a goal of the Stated Clerk’s to develop a policy and procedure for declaring and addressing scruples.
  • Develop and implement a reorganization of COM that increases efficiency and effectiveness of the committee by identifying the major functions of COM and assigning committee members, and qualified past members, to specialize in each function.
  • Schedule six meetings of COM in 2007, monitor the effectives of the committee with this schedule and evaluate if the schedule should be returned to ten meetings per year or modified in any other way.
  • Develop and implement training programs for new COM members and for each specialty we use such as Liaisons, case managers, administration, etc.
  • Develop a more effective and efficient organization for COM.
  • Implement that organization.
  • Gather policies on sabbaticals and determine if the presbytery should adopt such a policy. If so, develop and recommend a policy to presbytery.
  • Investigate the advisability of changing the day of the week and time of day of COM meetings, determine if a change should be made and if so implement the change.
  • Recommend the presbytery establish an administrative commission to dissolve the Red Oak Grove church, monitor progress of the dissolution including disposition of church assets, records and members, especially transfers to other churches.
  • Review the Operations Manual and make changes, including updating the transition process and any other functions that are altered by reorganization of the committee.
  • Develop system for creating a workable form of COM ‘corporate memory’.
  • Proactively seek ways to utilize the CLP-trained elders we have in this presbytery (commissioned to the presbytery, serving in cooperative parish arrangements, new church development, etc.).

These goals are not meant to be in any order of priority.
